Get More Volume When Blow-Drying

As you’ve probably noticed when
you go to the salon, hairdressers
use a term called “over”direction
which means that as you dry each
section, you pull the brush in the
opposite direction you want it to fall.
Don’t worry, it’s not as complicated
as it sounds. With these easy steps,
you’ll be a pro at blow-drying in no time!

So when you actually pull the brush in
the opposite direction, what it does is
that it has to loop up and over giving it
that desired height and body to your
hair. Start by using a volumizing
shampoo and conditioner.

Buy a good root lift product and apply
it to each section of the hair right at the
roots. With a wide-tooth comb, detangle
your hair and dry your hair using only
your hands until 80%. Start off at the
nape and gather a 5cm deep piece of
hair. Section that area. Brush through
that section again to make sure there
are no tangles. Draw your brush over
the surface of the section from roots to
ends, directing the hair up and against
the direction you want it to fall in.
Wind your hair around the brush
back towards the scalp (insuring the
ends are not bent). Unwind your
brush so that you leave about 5cm
of your hair to be dried.

Get a hairdryer with a nozzle attached
to it and dry your hair with the direction
of the airflow going onto the ends. The
air should go towards the brush but not
directly on the brush. Make sure you
always keep your hairdryer about 3-5
cm from your hair, so that it won’t burn.
Once each section is completely dry put
your hair dryer and brush down and insert
a velcro roller into the section.

After you hair your entire head in rollers
and it has cooled down, apply a little bit
of hairspray and remove each roller.
You will see amazing height and volume
added to your hair, and even if you do
think it might be a little too big, don’t
worry about it, it will settle down! Having
said that, apply some more hair spray
when the rollers are out and you’re set to go!
